Steelers Must Beat Miami

Miami will come to play and it will be a tough game for the Steelers. Forget about playoff hopes for now as 2 out of 3 teams need to lose for the Steelers to get in, provided they can beat the Dolphins who are a quality football team this year. Two of those teams, the Jets who play at Bengals and the Texans who play at New England, could face their opponents backup players. New England can take #3 seed with a win against Houston and since coach Belichick generally does not rest his players the Patriots should win that game, that's the good news for Pittsburgh. The bad news is if the Patriots win, they take 3rd place away from the Bengals who then have nothing on the line in that game. Since they play at 8pm they will know the outcome. This means the only thing they would be playing for is to allow their Arch Rival's Pittsburgh into the playoffs. Even pride might slip away, since they would love nothing more than to play a part in our elimination. However the Jets are a young club and the Bengals, playing at home with a chance to go to 11-5, will not actually lose on purpose, despite Lamar Woodley's comments.
The Ravens face Oakland who at 5-10, might seem like an easy opponent for the purple squawking birdies. The 'Black Hole' will be a tough place to play as the Raiders, who beat the Steelers,will be playing at home in their only game of the year with significant playoff implications. The Ravens win they are in, so it is a playoff game for them and a playoff caliber game in Oakland for the fans who I believe will help the Raiders play hard in that game.
But the Steelers, on life support in the playoff hunt, must take care of business first at Miami, where it is sunny and warm and where the Dolphins playoff season ended for sure last week.

Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey

Penguins need to snap their three game losing streak and will try to do so in Tampa Bay today without Sergei Gonchar. Sergei blocked a shot against New Jersey's Brian Rolston and is out for the game.

Pitt Panthers Basketball

Big Game for the Pitt Panthers today, playing in the orangedome against the undefeated (13-0) #5 Syrcuse Orangemen. Look for the young guys Gibbs and Wanamaker to play well, with Gilbert Brown and Jermaine Dixon providing some leadership, Mcghee needs to be strong down low for Pittsurgh. They will have their hands full with Wesley Johnson who is averaging 17 points and 9 rebounds a game for No. 5 Syracuse.
